Checkpoints are listed on the individual maps. Where solid red lines are shown on the maps, runners must follow them. Otherwise, runners may choose their own routes between checkpoints.
You must not climb over any fences, please use stiles or gates. On paired leg (leg 3) both runners must visit every checkpoint. You will need experienced runners who must be capable of navigation in the hills in adverse weather. Short courses may apply in bad weather.
Entries cost £60 per team (+ booking fee)
Entry is limited to 87 teams and is offered on a first come, first served basis. There is no limit on the number of teams per club. This event is open to affiliated clubs only. Once the limit is reached, a waitlist will operate. As we get close to full capacity, we may ask clubs to enter one team at a time to help things run smoothly.
Prize categories are as follows:
Open Senior - no restriction on team composition. 1st prize only.
Open 40+ - any gender mix, all runners must be 40 or older on the day. 1st prize only.
Open 50+ - any gender mix, all runners must be 50 or older on the day. 1st prize only.
Open 60+ - any gender mix, all runners must be 60 or older on the day. 1st prize only.
Female Senior – four women, no age restrictions. 1st prize only.
Female 40+ - four women, all runners must be 40 or older on the day. 1st prize only.
Female 50+ - four women, all runners must be 50 or older on the day. 1st prize only.
Female 60+ - four women, all runners must be 60 or older on the day. 1st prize only.
Mixed Senior – Two males and two females. No age restrictions. 1st prize only.
Mixed 40+ - Two males and two females. All runners must be 40 or older on the day. 1st prize only.
Mixed 50+ - Two males and two females. All runners must be 50 or older on the day. 1st prize only.
Mixed 60+ - Two males and two females. All runners must be 60 or older on the day. 1st prize only.
No more than one prize will be awarded to a team. If a team is eligible for more than one prize they will be awarded the prize in the higher position, and then the younger age category. For example:
If the fastest 50+ team beats all the 40+ teams, they will receive the 40+ prize, and the next 50+ team will receive the 50+ prize.
Winners will be decided on aggregate time i.e. the overall time for the three legs to be completed.
Entries
A team manager can register one or multiple teams and complete the payment. Nearer the event date, team managers will receive a separate email with instructions on how to add individual participants to each team.
Race entry
Cochrane Hall is 700 metres from the start of the race so leave sufficient time.
There are toilets facilities at the hall although limited private changing areas.
This relay is an early spring event so weather can be very unpredictable. Runners must have the physical ability and basic navigational skills. All runners will require full body cover (waterproof top and bottoms, hat, gloves) to be carried or worn at all times. A detailed map of the course, mobile phone, compass and whistle must also be carried as per SHR safety guidelines. There will be compulsory kit checks prior to the start and any team failing to comply will be disqualified.
Race route
Description of each route:
A relay race over 27 km consisting of 3 hill legs for teams of 4 (Leg 3 runs in pairs). Please be aware these hills are shared with other people so be considerate of other users. Start and Finish are at the same place (entrance to Alva Glen).
Leg 1: (approx. 9.75km/660m -checkpoints to be visited in order.
Start, 3 checkpoints (including compulsory route) and then finish
Start at the entrance to Alva Glen (700 metres from Cochrane Hall) Follow the hill track and path to Ben Ever Summit for Checkpoint A (CP1A), then onto Craighorn Summit (checkpoint B-CP1B) then down towards Glenwinnel Burn Crossing (checkpoint C-CP1C). After this, follow the compulsory marked route (solid red line on map) along the land rover track until Nebit hill path junction. From there it’s a short descent back to the finish.
Leg 2: approx. 8km/715m. Start at the entrance to Alva Glen (700 metres from Cochrane Hall)
Start, 3 checkpoints and then finish
Start at the entrance to Alva Glen (700 metres from Cochrane Hall). Follow the hill track and path up to Woodhill Summit for Checkpoint A (CP2A), then onto Ben Ever summit (checkpoint B-CP2B) then over to Nebit summit (CP2C). From there it’s a downhill approx 2km run back to the finish.
Leg 3 (Paired leg): (approx. 9.5 km/880m)
Start, 4 checkpoints (including compulsory route) and then finish
Start at the entrance to Alva Glen (700 metres from Cochrane Hall). Follow the hill trod up to Wee Torry Summit for Checkpoint A (CP3A), then onto Bengengie summit (checkpoint B-CP3B) then down towards the sheep pen gate (checkpoint C-CP3C). After this, follow the compulsory marked route (solid red line on map) along the land rover track to the next checkpoint at Glenwinnel burn crossing (CP3D). After this, continue on compulsory route along track until Nebit hill path junction. From there it’s a short descent back to the finish.
