Hill running navigation course
1-Apr-2010 10:08 AM
From: Dave Scott
Hi All Scottish Hill Runners is hoping to organise a navigation course for hill runners, possibly on the weekend of 15/16th May. The course would be provided by Bruce Poll, a qualified mountain leader, sports scientist, experienced hill runner and mountain marathoner. Course content would include basic map and compass navigation, safety on the hills, nutrition for longer days out, and race planning. Sessions would be both taught and practical with the emphasis on map and compass work. Depending on how this first course goes, we would hope to provide 1 or 2 such courses a year. The course would be residential with bunk house type self catering accommodation somewhere in central Scotland, arriving Friday evening or Saturday morning and finishing around 5pm Sunday. Cost would depend on venue, numbers, accommodation and food options, but is likely to be no more than around £60-80/head with concessions for SHR members. I am trying to get a feel for the level of demand for such a course and would be grateful if anyone interested could get in touch. Cheers Dave
